Some of my favorite dive-related apps for iOS devices are below. If you have others you would recommend, please let me know!

  • Dive Log – This is the perfect app for divers to log their dives, track their weight in various conditions, preserve notes about dive sites, track your air consumption, etc. My favorite feature, though, is that it allows me to store my c-cards and information about my gear and equipment. It even reminds me when I am due for service. Also, it syncs easily between iPad and Mac. This is a pay app but I have found it to be well worth the investment to preserve my information.
  • PADI – I like to use this free app as a guide when planning and selecting a dive operator. Even if you are not certified by the Professional Association of Dive Instructors (PADI), this is still very useful when looking for a dive shop while traveling. And let’s face it, this is probably the only thing PADI offers for free, so take advantage!
  • Dive SSI – This free app by Scuba Schools International (SSI) is a great way to refresh your hand signals. Each signal is presented with a photo and description. There are also some nice checklists for equipment and buddy checks.
  • Scuba Exam Lite – Want to refresh your memory before a trip by taking a brief dive quiz? With this free app, you can select 10 or 20 questions. There is an upgraded more comprehensive pay version of this app available here.
  • Alert Diver Magazine – Traveling and not able to access your mail subscription of the magazine? No worries – they now offer app access.

For dive travel safety, I definitely recommend:

  • RoadID – The WristID Sport product is a great velcro band where you can indicate your emergency contacts and diver insurance information. It is perfect for travel and has various sizes so it can fit over a wetsuit too. Mine is red but it comes in several colors and is nominally priced.
  • Divers Alert Network (DAN) – Dive accident insurance is required by some dive shops and dive travel operations, so it is worth considering. The price is reasonable.
